TRANSITIONAL DESIGN

TRANSITIONAL DESIGN

For some of us, it can be a hard choice to pick between having a modern home that comes with the sleek finishes that feels cold, or a cozy livable one that ends up looking old. What if we told you that it is possible to have a little bit of both? This is where transitional design comes in. Just as the names suggests, this style basically brings together two opposites ones, creating a middle ground between the best parts of the two. It may sound like something hard to pull off, but this shouldn’t worry you as we have a few tricks on how you can make this style work.

  1. Have a neutral color- Don’t be tempted to be flashy with the main hue. Stick to more neutral ones and let the furniture pop out.
  2. Bring in colorful accessories- Just because the paint is neutral, doesn’t mean everything else has to be. Bring out your fun, modern side and add in splashes of color with bright curtains, painting, rugs and even pillows.
  3. Add textural items- This can be made of different materials such as wood, glass, steel or metal.
  4. Pick comfy fixtures- For this type of design, the furniture is usually the main focus, with the rest of the room being arranged around it. Nonetheless, as much as this could mean going for modern clean lines and statement pieces, think of choosing ones that are also comfortable so that the room feels welcoming.
  5. Cushions are your friend- One more thing that is common with transitional décor is having lots of cushions, especially in the living room. These can have contemporary prints or single colors.
  6. Be careful not to do too much- Keep in mind that you are bringing in different aspects of two styles, meaning that it is very easy to overdo it. Pick the details carefully so that you can have a space that looks beautiful rather than messy.
